description: Sabaidee and Welcome to our All Lao Travel Elephant Camp and Mahout Eco Lodge Resort

We are situated 7 kilometers from the outskirts of Luang Prabang, the former royal capital of Lan Xang-Laos, and since 1995, a UNESCO designated World Heritage destination, describing Luang Prabang as one of "Southeast Asia's best preserved towns for its temples, monastaries, and colonial architecture".

Many travelers are familiar with Luang Prabang and that if forms a peninsula at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers.  The tributary waters of the Nam Khan are much cleaner and runs clearer than the more famous Mekong and that is what makes the KhanRiver a perfect setting for our Mahout Eco Lodge set across the banks from our All Lao Elephant Camp.

accommodation: Our Mahout Eco Lodge consists of 9 separate chalet-like cabins lined up in a slight arc nestled amongst one of the meandering bends of the Nam Khan:  a picturesque atmosphere for relaxing and absorbing Lao country life.  Our wood cabins are constructed from locally grown and harvested wood.  The posts for our stilted cabins are at least a foot in diameter, providing a solid foundation for the cabin's elevated wood hewn floors which are up to several meters above the ground.  Each cabin has two king-sized beds providing accommodations for up to 4 persons.  At the rear of each cabin is a large private bathroom with regular ‘western' style toilet and shower.

Each cabin has its own balcony fronting the scenic Nam Khan, looking back across to where elephants from our All Lao Elephant Camp emerge from an opening at the riverbank's rain forest canopy and where they frequently are seen being ‘bathed'.  On this opposite bank one also easily discerns in the distance ‘Phu Sang' or ‘Elephant Hill', distinctly conjuring an elephant's back while an adjacent hill forms its head and ears.

In addition, our Mahout Eco Lodge is serviced by an open-air pavilion restaurant ideal for al fresco dining.

other activities: Our Mahout Eco Lodge is uniquely situated to combine our All Lao Elephant Camp (now totaling thirteen elephants:  10 adults and 3 youngsters) with our other outdoor activities such as mountain biking, bamboo rafting, kayaking, or swimming, as well as cultural activities such as visiting ethnic minority villages and / or crafts villages (such as the nearby ‘weaving village' of Ban Phanom).  In addition we are also able to offer 45 touring or activities programs for our guests.  We have 25 Lao local guides who speak various ethnic minority languages.
