Samhitakasha -the cobhouse
description: Welcome to a unique setting: a beautiful family home built out of organic materials - mud, straw, and wood; finished with natural sealants and eco-friendly paints; and lots of love. Here you can relax in a room furnished with natural and organic materials, take a shower heated by solar power and soon recycled by a grey water system into the garden, and enjoy a full organic breakfast. And all close to the beach and located in an attractive city suburb of beautiful Cape Town – undoubtedly the greenest B&B in the city (and the first modern cob house on a suburban street in South Africa!) 'To escape city life, spend a weekend at this retreat....lives up to it's reputation as Cape town's greenest B&B, generous hosts and a refuge from the sun' Sunday Times (South Africa) 28th February 2010.
accommodation: The guest accommodation, with its own private entrance, consists of a spacious triple bedroom with ensuite shower and ablution facilities. The main bed is a luxury queen-size bed, and there is also a single futon bed suitable for an additional adult, which can be opened up into two futons if a family of four wishes to take the room. Linen, curtains, mattresses, towels etc. have all been made from natural and organic or recycled materials. The room features views of the Cape mountains. There is access to the garden, which includes an outside fireplace, and off-street parking available. Internet access and an eco-friendly laundry service are available.
pricing: Prices for 2010: until June 11th - R250 pppn. June 11th – July 11th: R400 pppn. July 12th – September 30th: R300 pppn. Children under 2 free, over 2 pay half price. Discounts possible for those not taking breakfast. Arrivals: from 2.30pm. Check-out: by 10.00am.
location: The house is situated 200 metres from Muizenberg beachfront, a perfect beach to learn to surf as well as a family swimming beach - on Cape Town's warmer side, where the Atlantic waters are mellowed by the reach of the Indian Ocean. There are many other family facilities behind the beachfront (including waterslides and 'putt putt' - crazy golf). Muizenberg itself has many shops, including organic grocery shops, restaurants, surf schools, and performance venues: it is one of the most diverse and interesting communities in the Cape. The house is also 200m from Zandvlei (home to the Cape Town International Kite Festival in the spring, as well as water sports and plenty of birdlife), and 5 minutes walk from the False Bay train station, which has regular connections to central Cape Town and south to other resort towns along the Cape Peninsula as far as Simon's Town. The Muizenberg section of the Table Mountain range has spectacular hiking and caving opportunities and can be reached within 10 minutes walk; half an hour walk (or 4 minutes on the train) gets you to Kalk Bay's popular attractions of restaurants, a working harbour and antique/ curio shops, via St. James, which features a wonderful and safe tidal pool for swimmers of all ages. Close by are highways to the city centre (25 minutes), the northern suburbs (25 minutes), and out to Stellenbosch and the Winelands (30 minutes), as well as the M4 south to historic Simon's Town (15 minutes, featuring a famous penguin colony) and the Cape Point area.
