property description:   Rezare Farmhouse is a traditional 17th century Cornish farmhouse situated in a quiet, peaceful hamlet within the Tamar Valley, on the Cornwall / Devon border, midway between Dartmoor,  Bodmin Moor, and both coasts. We provide comfortable, characterful bed and breakfast accommodation with an emphasis on good food. Although no longer a working farm, the surrounding area is entirely agricultural, and is generally overlooked by traditional holiday traffic, which means that although we are within very easy reach of many interesting places to visit throughout Cornwall and Devon , you can leave the crowds behind you and return to the peace and quiet in  the evenings.

The house itself is full of character, with many original features still in place. The main section was built some time in the mid - late 1600's, with two extensions added during the Georgian era. It was constructed in the same way that most traditional Cornish farmhouses of the period were, with a mixture of slate, granite, and whatever other stone was to hand being used for the walls on the ground floor, cob (mud and straw) on the first floor.

Breakfast and evening meals are served in the characterful dining room, dominated by the large fireplace which features two clome ovens; clay domes that were buried in the stonework and used to bake bread and pastries, and the welcoming wood burner, lit most evenings from the Autumn through to Spring. This room also doubles as the guests' lounge, with several comfortable arm chairs and antique wooden chairs to choose from.

We enjoy living where we do, and try to give a true flavour of the area that guests are visiting, by buying whatever we need from local producers first and foremost, and fair-trade if this is not possible. By doing so we hope to support and encourage awareness of the tremendous variety of quality produce on our doorstep.

accommodation: Although you will be staying in an old, period property, this doesn’t mean you will be sacrificing modern comforts. The very thick walls of a traditional Cornish farmhouse coupled with good insulation and efficient heating make for a lovely, cosy environment to stay in .

Our principle aim is that you should feel able to relax entirely during your stay and so our rooms ( two doubles, one twin and one single ) contain touches of luxury in the important areas, and are furnished to a high standard with very comfortable beds and practical antiques. Most rooms have views across open countryside to Kit Hill and the Inny and Tamar Valley .

The beds in all of our rooms have simple, sturdy wooden frames with high quality individually pocket sprung mattresses, all the bed linen is 100% Egyptian cotton, the blankets are beautifully soft pure virgin wool, and we offer both goose feather and down, and non-allergenic pillows. Each bed is also covered with one of Nanette's hand-made quilts.

Each room has ensuite facilities which comprise either a shower or bath (or both, in the single room), with handmade soaps and a selection of high quality toiletries, radiators with individual thermostats, plus of course a television and a selection of fairtrade teas and coffee, and Furniss biscuits. Guests have free access to our secured wifi network from all bedrooms. Ironing facilities and a hairdryer are available upon request. Well behaved dogs are welcome.

Guests are encouraged to separate out any recyclable waste materials, and to let us know if towels haven't been used during their stay.

excellent breakfasts:   Breakfast makes use of the fact that Launceston has an excellent butcher who make their own delicious sausages and cure their own bacon. Pure apple juice is produced from fruit grown within a three mile radius of the house, eggs come from our own chickens, we bake fresh bread daily, make our own fruit compote, yoghurt and granola, and have a range of home-made preserves.

As well as the traditional full English breakfast we offer alternatives such as kippers, or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.

evening meals:  Food plays a big part in our lives (Nanette cooked professionally until we opened the B&B), and we are keen to use and promote the many excellent meat, fish, vegetable and dairy producers in this area. Our own vegetable and fruit garden which we garden following organic principles, an area we are still learning about, provides a reasonable proportion of what we need throughout the year.

Seasonally inspired three course evening meals are available most nights. The menus, which change daily, feature ingredients that speak for themselves, cooked simply and with care, with the minimum of fuss. We are licensed, and stock only locally produced, award winning wines, beers and ciders.

surroundings: Walking : there is great variety in the immediate and wider areas for walkers. From quiet river walks along wide estuaries and through steep wooded valleys, up to the vast, open, craggy expanses of Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor , and out onto the spectacular coastlines of the north and south coasts, all within easy reach.

Cycling : the Tamar Valley is full of small, quiet country lanes that connect many delightful villages, hamlets and historical sites, offering everything from flat(ish) easy riding, through to demanding steep inclines.

Fishing : The river Tamar and its tributaries are a breeding ground for Salmon, Sea Trout and Brown Trout. Beats along beautiful stretches are accessible through a number of associations or clubs.

Historic houses & gardens : There are lots of National Trust properties, private houses open to the public, and gardens nearby, all with their own character and points of interest.

location: Plymouth is the nearest train station, about 20 miles away. The number 76 bus ( Plymouth to Bude) stops at the station, and can drop travellers at the Springer Spaniel Pub, Treburley, approx ¾ mile from us. We can collect from this bus stop.

We are ¾ mile off the A388, halfway between Launceston and Callington. The A388 connects Launceston and Plymouth , so you could take either the A30 around the northern edge of Dartmoor and head south on the A388 from Launceston, or take the A38 around the southern edge of Dartmoor, and head north on the A388 after crossing the River Tamar at Saltash.

There are many interesting things to do and see within a short to medium drive from our property; most of Cornwall and Devon are easily accessible. It is worth pointing out that if you are reliant on public transport, although local services are generally very good, connections between areas can make longer journeys quite time consuming, so careful planning is recommended.
