property description: situated 4 miles from the beautiful fortified hill-top town of Elvas, with its magnificent Roman aqueduct, in a wonderfully unspoilt part of Portugal. The countryside consists of rolling hills of olive trees and holm oaks, with fortified hill-top villages and castles. The farmhouse is a spacious traditional building which has been sympathetically modernised and equipped to a good standard. It has a 10m x 5m swimming pool and there is also a magnificent pool with slides in the nearby village of Varche. There is excellent local bird watching accommodation: 2 large and 1 medium sized double bedrooms (one with king-size double bed, one with twin beds and one with small double bed). 2 other beds on the huge landing. Bathroom adjoining largest bedroom. Shower-room with wc and wash basin. Separate wc with wash basin. Large sitting room upstairs which has a fine view of Spain. Kitchen with wood-burning stove for the winter and equipped with cooker, fridge-freezer and washing machine. Patio with a shady olive tree and a barbecue. surroundings: The Quinta is a 46 acre farm of olive and orange groves with almond, fig, pomegranate, walnut, plum, quince and persimmon trees, watered by a Moorish irrigation system. There are also sheep (with bells), chickens, turkeys, pigs and dogs. Guests are free to walk all round the farm, which is largely organic. contact
